Voters in California will decide in November whether to impose a one-time, 5% tax on residents and trusts with a net worth of more than $1 billion. The proposal is deeply controversial, with opponents on both sides of the aisle warning that passage of the measure — the first of its kind in the U.S. — would be a body blow to the state’s competitiveness. But one of the authors of the proposal insists California will be just fine. “California will, I think, more likely be better off if this is passed than not,” said University of Missouri law professor David Gamage,…
Investing.com — Deutsche Bank maintained Hold ratings across its cruise line coverage, pushing back on bullish expectations ahead of second-quarter earnings and arguing the sector’s outlook is “perhaps not as clear as bulls believe it to be.” According to a note from analyst Chris Woronka, while cruise is often described as an under-penetrated travel vertical with consistently strong demand, U.S. hotel RevPAR, particularly at resorts and within top-tier price segments, is “poised to meaningfully outperform the aggregate of cruise industry yields this year.” Deutsche Bank attributed this divergence at least partly to differences in supply growth between the lodging and cruise…

Wall Street’s support for Netflix is wavering after the streaming platform’s latest results on Thursday failed to ease concerns over slowing growth, with a number of analysts slashing price targets for the stock. The entertainment firm reported $12.56 billion in revenue for the second quarter — a figure that was slightly below the $12.59 billion expected by analysts polled by LSEG. Its revenue was still up 13% on a year-over-year basis, largely due to the streaming platform’s membership and advertising growth as well as its subscription price hikes. Netflix’s earnings came in at 80 cents per share, a penny ahead…
briefly reclaimed the title of the world’s most valuable company, unseating AI darling in a major market shakeup this Friday.
