Wall Street kicked off the third quarter with mixed results after a blockbuster first half for stocks. The first two days of Q3 and the second half of the year saw the S & P 500 pretty much flat, while the Dow Jones Industrial Average and the Nasdaq moved in opposite directions. The Dow finished the holiday-shortened week with a record close Thursday as a soft jobs report reduced chances of a Federal Reserve interest rate hike. The Nasdaq suffered back-to-back losses, with chip stocks as measured by the PHLX Semiconductor Index sinking 6.3% on Wednesday and 5.4% on Thursday.…
In his letter, Pinkerton said: “This has never been about a golf course…nor is it about opposing a new hospital.”He added that the site is “fundamentally unsuitable” because of the impact on “transport and accessibility” and that the development “would destroy part of the historic Frimley Common.”The letter went on to say that he “was disappointed that your response at PMQs did not engage with these substantive concerns” and that his constituents “deserved answers, not political point-scoring”.Pinkerton also raised concerns about transparency on finances, the cost of the works, and the “integrity of the site selection process,” including questions about…

When storms threaten the community, it…

Brussels has rebuffed a British request to participate in decision-making in the EU, further delaying a deal to reset post-Brexit relations with the bloc.London wants a “decision-shaping” role in the rules and regulations that Britain has agreed to follow as part of its push for closer economic ties with the EU, according to people briefed on the matter. However, the European Commission told member state ambassadors the idea was not feasible as it would give the UK more rights than countries such as Norway and Iceland that pay into the EU budget and participate fully in its single market. The UK request…
