Save 50 Cents Per Gallon With Amazon Prime’s Latest Gas Discount

If you’re one of the 85% of Americans expected to drive to Independence Day celebrations this year, there’s a new gas discount that can help you save significantly.

Amazon Prime members can save 50 cents per gallon on one fuel purchase from July 2 to July 5 at more than 7,500 bp, Amoco and participating ampm and Thorntons locations. This discount is 5X higher than the regular 10-cent discount Amazon offers Prime members.

While the national gas price average has fallen for the fifth straight week, the current average of $3.85 per gallon is still about 67 cents higher than a year ago, according to AAA.

Here’s everything you need to know about the gas discount and other savings opportunities for Prime members. Plus, we highlight some top gas credit cards so you can stack savings.

How to get a gas discount with Amazon Prime

As an Amazon Prime member, you can get 50 cents off per gallon at more than 7,500 bp, Amoco and participating ampm and Thorntons locations across the U.S, but only from July 2 through July 5.

To snag this discount, Prime members need to link their Amazon account to earnify™, bp’s gas rewards app, which is free to join. Once the promotional period concludes, you’ll earn the standard 10-cents-per-gallon discount.

This benefit can be shared via Amazon Family, meaning one household could take advantage of this deal twice — though two members in your Amazon Family need to have separate earnify™ accounts.

Additional Fourth of July savings for Prime members

While the gas savings is eye-catching, Amazon is offering Prime members additional savings that can help you save on July Fourth picnic necessities.

Prime members who frequently shop at Whole Foods Market can enjoy 50% off ice cream and frozen treats from July 1 through July 7, plus 25% off ground beef and 30% off select snacks online and in-store.

If you’re a Prime Access member — which is open to qualifying government assistance recipients and income-verified customers — you can receive an exclusive $5 monthly grocery credit from July through September this year. This credit is doled out at the start of each month and automatically applied at checkout on eligible everyday essential grocery orders of $25 or more on Amazon.com.

How to save on a Prime membership

While all of these offers require a Prime membership ($14.99 per month or $139 per year), you may qualify for a membership discount.

Firstly, if you don’t already have a membership, you can try Prime free for 30 days. Amazon also offers discounted membership opportunities for select groups of people:

    • Prime for Young Adults: Those ages 18 through 24 can qualify for Prime at a discounted rate of just $7.49 a month. Plus, you can take advantage of a six-month free trial.
    • Prime Access: Eligible government assistance recipients or income-verified customers can get a Prime membership for half the cost at just $6.99 per month. Prime Access members also qualify for the standard 30-day free trial.

TIP: If you already have a Prime membership and want added rewards at Amazon, consider applying for the Prime Visa (see rates and fees). The card doesn’t have an annual fee (outside of requiring a Prime membership for approval) and earns 5% cash back on your Amazon purchases.
