Anthropic on Friday announced its latest artificial intelligence model, Claude Opus 5, which it said is its best-performing and most cost-effective offering across a number of industry benchmarks. Opus 5 outperforms the last model that Anthropic released, Claude Fable 5, on coding and knowledge work evaluations, and the company said it’s “designed to be used every day,” according to a blog post. Opus 5 is also half the price of Fable 5, and will cost users $5 per million input tokens and $25 per million output tokens.Anthropic said Opus 5 is not the state-of-the-art for “risky, dual-use capabilities,” like cybersecurity. The…

But US satellite firms such as Planet Labs and Vantor have largely restricted imagery related to the ongoing Iran war after the US government raised concerns about security risks. Such restrictions have forced journalists and researchers to rely more heavily on alternatives such as the free Copernicus satellite images and European firms that provide commercial satellite imagery. After criticism from a federal judge, the Department of Justice yesterday withdrew demands for phone records and grand jury testimony from New York Times reporters who wrote about security concerns related to the Air Force One jet donated to Trump by Qatar. It was a setback in the Trump administration’s attempts to unmask journalists’ confidential sources. US District Judge Arun Subramanian “grilled Justice Department lawyers for nearly an hour over their handling of the subpoenas” during a hearing on Thursday, The New York Times wrote. “Either we can quash the subpoenas, or you could withdraw the subpoenas,” Subramanian reportedly told…

“Although there is issues around memory that we have to manage, [the RAM shortage] is generally great for our business because of our bill of materials cost advantage, which allows us to just have a lower cost than … all the competing products. That gap is just widening right now by a pretty wide margin,” Wood said, per a transcript of the call. The executive also noted that the low costs associated with running Roku OS have helped the company win over TV OEMs and retailers. Many tech companies have hiked prices recently due to the memory shortage. On the…

One down, three to go. Alphabet kicked off Big Tech earnings this week — telling Wall Street it plans to spend even more than previously expected on artificial intelligence. Now, the question is whether fellow Club names Amazon , Meta Platforms, and Microsoft will follow suit when they report next week. “Capex trends are going to be the number one focus,” Club portfolio director Jeff Marks said Friday during the Morning Meeting . That’s because investors are no longer giving companies a free ride on spiraling capital expenditures, increasingly demanding monetization of all their infrastructure investments — or at least…
